Walking
Lochaber is a walker’s paradise, featuring an unrivalled choice
of walks at all levels, coastal, low and high level, gentle to demanding.
And The Great Glen Way, just introduced - passes through stunning
scenery which has been moulded by thousands of years of troubled history.
You follow the Great Glen Way from its start in Fort William through
thousands of years of history and legend to Inverness. Loch Ness lurks
beside us, guarded by ruined castles and hidden monsters.
This is Scotland's latest official footpath and the walking is on
the whole easy as you follow disused roads, forest paths and canal
towpaths. There is no better way to unwind and discover Scotland's
history.
Cycling
Enjoy superb cycling on single track surfaced roads passing through
Scotland's most spectacular mountains. This is road cycling at its
best, through national nature reserves and winding past the numerous
small lochans and unusual shaped mountains formed during the ice age.

Wildlife
An unspoilt area with a low population, Lochaber provides ideal habitats
for a huge range of birds and beasts. In fact, unless you travel with
your eyes shut, you are sure to encounter some special creature. Best
of all, you don't have to tramp for miles to enjoy exciting wildlife
views. Red kites, for example, are easily seen from the car. Ospreys
are everyday birds in the nearby Cairngorms National Park and elsewhere.
Red deer, Scotland's largest wild creature, also abound and can often
be seen from the road, especially in the cooler months when they move
down from the high tops.
Closely associated with this area is the golden eagle. Its home is
the high moors, crags and mountain corries in many parts of the area.
If you are very lucky you may also encounter the spectacular sea eagle
in a few places on the west coast.
