Country &
Field Sports Fishing
Most of the freshwater fishing here is for wild brown trout on the
lochs along with some stocked rainbow trout fisheries. There are some
big trout, ferox and pike to be found as well. These are usually caught
by trolling large lures and plugs from a boat on the larger lochs
but it is also possible to hook good sized fish from the bank. This
is an ideal area for the specimen angler as there are places where
the likes of pike fishing for example have not really been exploited
in any way and each summer ferox of around 15lb to 20lb are regularly
reported.
The season for trout runs from 15th March to 5th October and although
salmon fishing opens officially in January rivers around Fort William
open later in April or May and close earlier in September. There
is no season for rainbow trout as they are not indigenous to Scotland.
In the lochs which open to the sea there is no season as it is classed
as sea fishing but the warmer weather does bring good sized shoals
of mackerel and cod around July and August.
Shooting
Opportunities abound for great deer stalking, grouse shooting, game
and rough shooting. Stalk the elusive Sika or Roe Deer through the
woodlands and forests of the lower Glens. Clay pigeon shooting is
available at nearby Farr Cottage Activity centre. For all country
pursuits, check with the hotel for availability, kit needed, and
minimum numbers required for certain shoots.
Most of our shooting is done in conjunction with a number of well
qualified experts in the area.
